Myopia, also known as Nearsightedness is a commonly occurring refractive error suffered by several people around the world. It occurs when your eye is too long in comparison to the curve of your cornea. Due to this, light enters your eye to focus in front of the retina.
People suffering from Myopia find it difficult to see things that are far away. And, those who suffer from severe Myopia can only see objects clearly when they are only some inches away.
However, Myopia is an eye condition that can be treated using laser vision correction (LASEK, LASIK, PRK, EPI-LASIK), Refractive Lens Exchange, or Intraocular Collamer Lens.
At Optical One, we can help you to determine the best vision correction treatment for getting rid of Myopia. Our optometrists provide proper consultation to people who need help and want freedom from this eye disease.
How Can It Be Corrected?
Millions of people across Canada are suffering from the issue of myopia (nearsightedness), which is projected to negatively impact more than 50 percent of the world’s population by 2050.
At Optical One in Brampton, Mississauga, we offer MiSight 1-day contact lenses to correct Myopia. These are the world’s first one-day soft contact lenses that have been clinically proven by Eye Care Professionals to slow the progress of myopia in children.
Myopia also increases the risk of retinal detachment and myopic maculopathy. Even low myopia levels are linked with a higher prevalence of glaucoma and cataracts. MiSight lenses can reduce the progress of myopia by more than half percent as compared to a single vision one-day lens.
For the last three years, children using MiSight lenses saw 59% less progress of myopia and 52% less axal elongation on average compared to those who used a single-vision one-day lens. The lenses are recommended for children who have been prescribed with myopia from -0.25 to -6.00.
Easy To Use and Care
Our Optometrists know how to easily fit MiSight 1 day like a single vision soft contact lens. They require minimal chair time and follow-ups, in comparison to other therapies.
These lenses are aimed to provide ease of use to children and peace to the parents. As per a study, 100% of children who had never used contact lenses agreed that they found MiSight 1 day easy to remove after one month of use. After using them for a month, 85% of children said that the lenses were easy to insert.
Children found the use of lenses comfortable. It didn’t impact their daily lives while the experience of wearing lenses was similar to wearing single-vision ones. Parents were also happy with the response as their children were able to manage the insertion and removal of the lenses on their own.
Before the advent of dispensing contact lenses, less than 50% of parents were fine with their children wearing contact lenses, the figure increased to 79% of parents in only one month and continues to remain high. After observing children wearing MiSight 1-day contact lenses for three years, 100% of parents said that their children were happy and the overall experience deserves applause.
It was important for the MiSight 1-day program to offer a positive experience to- eye care professionals, children, and parents. The lenses and the therapy required the approval of all three to be effective.
